Exposed to the World

Is it good or bad to have your personal information available to everyone via the internet? This like so many things can be, using an old cliche, a two edged sword. My greatest fear is picking up a virual infection that renders my computer useless. I love to play computer games and wonder how safe are they to play. I play FarmVille on face book and get neighbor requests from people I don't know and wonder how safe they are to accept. It is a shame that we have to be so carefull with what we put on our posts and question the wisdom of doing something as simple as a casual play game. I have virus programs and firewalls installed and run the safety checks once or twice a week and hope they are effective.

Identity theft is a threat, but if you use common sense you are relatively save. I feel that in a digital world there is no 100% guarantee. Any thing can happen. I try to restrict how my personal information can be viewed by others and use encrypted sites to do my on line bill paying. My policy is to never put in writing anything that I would not want everyone to know. I try to keep my private live private.

The Internet has proven itself to be a great tool for business. Your customers and clients are not limited to those available in your geographical location. The whole world is now your potential customer. Follow the good financial rules of business and the pros out way the cons.

The Internet is here to stay. I feel it is the responsibility of the user to become educated and use it to enhance their life. It is a good way to communicate timely with those around you.
